Dr. Sammy Wambua’s expertise spans molecular biology and bioinformatics specializing in conservation genomics. As the Head of the Pwani University Biosciences Research Centre (PUBReC), where this study is based, Dr. Sammy Wambua brings technical expertise in genomic data generation and analysis, particularly applied to species of conservation concern. 

His research group is currently advancing genomic approaches for threatened taxa including sea turtles, sea cucumbers, primates, elephants, antelopes, and birds—experience that directly informs and strengthens the goals of this coral-focused project. Dr. Sammy Wambua’s roles in the project will be to: 

  • Oversee project implementation.
  • Supervise data analysis and student training.
  • Coordinate collaborations with conservation partners, and scientists. 
  • Ensure timely delivery of all scientific outputs.
